Basics Made Easy with CDL Consultants

Trucking Operation Management is a very rewarding profession; however, it can also be very stressful.  Between DOT Roadside Inspections, managing your Safety Fitness Determination rating and consistently growing your business, it can be hard to monitor and address your drivers on the road to be able to oversee your CSA BASICs.  It can be even harder to manage those inspections and manage the CSA Scores for Truck Drivers.  That is where CSA Compliance Consultant, CDL Consultants come in.  CDL Consultants Trucking Compliance Experts have been helping carriers limit their DOT Roadside Inspections for years, resulting in lower scores on your CSA BASICs.  They work closely with companies to avoid DOT Fines for Non Compliance while also focusing on CSA Score Reduction through “clean” roadside inspections.  With CDL Consultants’ Compliance Management Software, Trucking Compliance Experts and their years of experience they will help guide you to better DOT Roadside Inspections and help improve your BASICs scores.

Did you know?

There are 7 different types of BASICs –

  1. UNSAFE Driving
  2. CRASH Indicator
  3. Hours-of-Service (HOS)
  4. VEHICLE Maintenance
  5. Controlled Substances & Alcohol
  6. HAZMAT (Hazardous Materials)
  7. DRIVER Fitness

How do the BASICs affect drivers?

The BASICs organize data from roadside inspections, including driver and vehicle violations, crash reports from the last two years, and investigation results. Violations adversely affect your company’s SMS results for two years and may prioritize your company for an FMCSA intervention, ranging from warning letters to full Onsite Investigations that could result in an Out-of-Service Order (OOSO) or a change to your company’s safety rating.  Your safety performance and compliance impacts your employer’s safety records—and your own.  With driver consent, carriers can use FMCSA’s Pre-Employment Screening Program (PSP) as a preemployment screening tool to see a driver’s five-year crash and three-year inspection history.

We all know that the most important thing for a carrier and a driver is actively being on the road.  Picking up or dropping off a load.  The last thing any carrier wants is time wasted on a DOT Roadside Inspection.  One of the best ways to avoid being stopped on the road is making sure your drivers are doing pre and post trip inspections so that they are aware of any issues prior to getting behind the wheel.  By focusing on your vehicle’s well-being, you will automatically limit the amount of DOT Fines for Non-Compliance.  The same can be said about your Driver Qualification File Management.  If you spend the time to make sure your DOT Driver Qualification Files are up to date and correct, you will not only avoid CSA Roadside Inspections in the future but you CSA Roadside Inspections will be much quicker currently.  This goes for all of your company’s BASICs.

Focusing on your BASIC’s scores are not just for CSA Roadside Inspections, if your company ever goes through a DOT Compliance Audit the investigator will address your BASICs in that as well.  They are directly tied to your Safety Fitness Determination rating and ISS (Inspection Selection System).

Running and growing a business is hard enough, don’t let negative DOT Roadside Inspections hinder your growth or cost you money.  Let CDL Consultants make your day just a little bit easier by letting their CSA Compliance Consultants help you improve and maintain your company’s BASICs.
